City Girl Sew Along - Block #16

Happy Thursday! Block # 16 of our City Girl Sew Along is called "Best Friends", a puppy and a cat sitting on the window sill and watching the hustle and bustle of the city. I really like this block...

What you will need:

(1) 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" square of background
White rectangles: (2) 1-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles
                             (2) 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
(1) 6-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle of dark gray for pets (I used Riley Blake Designs Blenders C200)
HeatnBond Lite fusible web (or web of your choice)
Thread for applique (I used Aurifil Mako 12 wt color 2630)

Transfer pet shapes (click here to download template) onto HeatnBond Lite. For details on how to work with fusible web, please click here. Fuse to wrong side of dark gray fabric. Using sharp scissors, cut out shapes and set aside.

Stitch white 6-1/2" x 1-1/2" rectangles to each side of the background rectangle using a 1/4" seam. Press with seams towards the dark fabric.

Stitch 8-1/2" x 1-1/2" rectangles to bottom and top of rectangle. Press.

Fuse shapes to background, making sure pets are 'sitting' on the window sill as above. Using blanket stitch, machine applique puppy and cat.

And you are done! How are your blocks coming along? Here are Annmarie's latest blocks:

Great blocks! What perfect fabric for the park bench! Lately, as I drive through big cities my eyes keep searching for landmarks to be featured on this Sew Along. It is so fun...

... and fun is the giveaway for this week: flannels. Have you entered it yet? You have until tomorrow at 5pm.  This week I did not send an email alerting my followers because I did not want to bother them with another one this month. So, less competition!

Enjoy your day,
